Oscar Award: Nostalgia for the Motion Picture
The greatest number of nominations and statuettes of the Oscars received films that tell about cinema. More precisely, the history of this exciting art. Both paintings are nostalgic for those times when what was happening on the screen was perceived by the audience as a miracle, and artists and directors were perceived as sorcerers.
The “Guardian of Time” by Martin Scorsese tells the story of a boy named Hugo (played by Asa Butterfield), who, remaining an orphan, lives at the station and watches the station clock. In memory of his father, he is trying to restore a broken "car" - a mechanical figure of a person. In the course of the plot, he meets the strange owner of a toy shop at the station, who later turns out to be the author of "car dealership" and the famous director of the first films, Méliès. "The Guardian of Time" is breathtakingly beautiful and gives the station and a huge clock with its gears and arrows especially mysterious. The main leitmotif of the film is love, even a passion for the art of cinema, which does not fade even with time.
The film “Artist” by Michel Hazanavicius is a real bomb of the past year. A black and white silent film with a previously unknown French actor conquered both Europe and America. The leading actor Jean Dujardin instantly became a superstar, and the film collected an unprecedented amount of prizes. The plot of the film is not complicated - with the departure of a little film, the fame of an actor who never made a sound goes away. He is replaced by a young beautiful starlet who can sing and dance. But it’s precisely this girl who makes Valentina (that’s the name of the artist) believe in herself again and take part in the new film-musical. “Artist”, in addition to the finest play of actors, beautiful music and costumes, captivates with his love for the movie. Cinema, from which it is impossible to break away, without which life is not sweet. Cinema academics appreciated the declaration of love for cinema - more than a dozen nominations for Oscars received each of these two films.
